Course Objectives

  • Covers filing season issues and tax law updates, as well as a knowledge-based comprehension test administered at the end of the course by LMS, your CE provider
  • Engage in our ten (10) hour course on other federal tax law topics
  • Learn the ethics a tax preparer should know in our two (2) hour course

How often to I have to take the IRS Continuing Education course?

Every tax preparer MUST take this course every year to be approved by the IRS for the next tax season.
Take the 18 hours of Continuing Education class outlined in our IRS Continuing Education course objectives section.
Have an active Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN). After PTIN renewal season begins in October, a Record of Completion will be generated to you once all requirements have met, including renewal of your PTIN for 2019 and consent to the Circular 230 obligations.
If you have an online PTIN account, you will receive an e-mail from TaxPro_PTIN@irs.gov with instructions on how to sign the Circular 230 consent and receive your certificate in your secure online mailbox.
You must have an active PTIN and you must complete 18 hours of Continuing Education (CE) by December 31 by using an IRS Approved Provider, such as LMS.
